Barcelona advances to Champions League quarter finals with 8-3 aggregate win over Newcastle United

Hansi Flick’s smoking hot Barcelona tore Newcastle United to pieces with a 7-2 triumph in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 round of 16 second leg match on Wednesday 18 March, 2026 at Camp Nou.

Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski netted a brace each to help Barcelona reach the quarter finals of the tournament with a beautiful 8-3 aggregate victory.

Magpies manager, Eddie Howe’s side headed into the clash after finishing the first leg with a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park, with the hope of rising and shining rather than falling and dimming in the showdown against the Catalans.

The English visitors showed a lot of determination and twice levelled against the rampant Barcelona through Anthony Elanga in a tough first half, and strike out goals from Raphinha and Marc Bernal.

Howe’s men were still very much in the game despite falling behind after Yamal netted from the penalty spot, but, lost the spirit after the restart.

Raphinha opened the scoring for the home side with Fermin Lopez’s assist in the 6th minute, but, Newcastle equalized through Elanga in the 15th minute from Lewis Hall’s assist.

In the 18th minute, Bermal placed Barcelona back in front, but, Elanga once again levelled for the Premier League side after Harvey Barnes had provided.

Then, in the 7th minute of first half additional time, Spain right winger, Lamine Yamal, netted the third for the hosts from the penalty spot to make it 3-2, and from there on it became a goal spree for Barca.

Raphinha returned the favour and provided for Lopez in the 51st minute, who made sure to convert and net the fourth for Flick’s side; and brace from Polish striker, Lewandowski, in the 56th and 61st minutes took Barcelona even further and buried any comeback hopes for Newcastle United.

Victory was sealed in the 72nd minute when Raphinha netted the seventh. The Brazil international has now netted nineteen (19) goals for the Spanish Kings this season in all competitions.

The English side were ultimately feeble in their defending and their night migrated from bad to worse when Barcelona took advantage of a couple of mistakes.
