Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich head coach, has released his statement ahead of the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 final League Phase encounter between his side and PSV Eindhoven.
The former Burnley manager said, the Bavarians “are not going easy on anyone”.
Bayern Munich will take a trip to Eindhoven for the Champions League last preliminary against Dutch Eredivisie toppers, PSV Eindhoven, on Wednesday 28 January, 2026 at 21:00 (WAT).
The German Kings are currently second on the Champions League standings after accumulating eighteen (18) points after seven (7) games, losing just one (1) game to Premier League toppers, Arsenal.
Arsenal humbled Bayern Munich 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium; the decider match has Mikel Arteta’s Gunners at the summit of the table with twenty-one (21) points.
PSV are standing on the 22nd spot of the UCL table with just eight (8) points as they head into the final clash against a smoking hot Bayern.
On Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, Kompany, who is still hungry for success with the German Club, said, he has no plans for “soft integration”, adding, at this level in the campaign, he is opting for “hard integration”.
Kompany praised former Bayer Leverkusen defender, Jonathan Tah, for his “strengths”, saying, the Germany international has shown how important he is since the season kicked off.
According to Bayern Munich official X account, at his pre-PSV press conference, Kompany said:
On his defenders:
“I expect them to defend – that’s 50 per cent being physically strong, but also being strong with the ball. The other 50 per cent is communication. It’s also important to help the team with your voice. That’s one of Jona’s strengths. He’s shown that since the start of the season.”
On the return of French defender, Sacha Boey:
“Sacha hasn’t trained that often yet, but he’s finally recovered from this illness. He won’t start yet – but it’s a stroke of luck that he’s fit again. It comes at the right time for us.”
On “integration” of Musiala and Davies:
“We all agree that these are two good players. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as soft integration at this stage of the season, but a hard integration. We’re close to having a great squad at the most important time of the season.”
On the showdown against PSV:
“We’re not going easy on anyone. We’re in the position of having almost the entire squad with us. Only a few players still have to integrate after their return. We also have players who have played a lot of minutes. We know the qualities of PSV. We have confidence in our squad.”
Comparison between Bayern Munich and PSV:
“I would compare PSV and Bayern, there are a lot of similarities: how we attack, the roles of the strikers, the number ten, the full-backs, the midfield, the build-up play… PSV play a high pressing game and always focus on their opponents, which makes the team very compact.”
Bayern Munich suffered its first Bundesliga defeat of the season, 2-1, in the hands of Augsburg on Saturday 24 January, 2026 at Allianz Arena.
