The United Kingdom (UK) giving away the Island of Diego Garcia is the “reason” the United States (US) must “acquire” Greenland, President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, posted on Truth Social.
The American President said, it is “great stupidity” for the UK to give away the Diego Garcia Island, which is a site for a “vital” US Military Base, to Mauritius.
Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an Island nation in the Indian Ocean, more than 1,500 kilometres off the southeastern coast of East Africa, east of Madagascar. It encompasses Mauritius (the main Island), and Rodrigues, Agaléga, St. Brandon (Cargados Carajos shoals) and the Chagos Archipelagos.
Trump said, this “act” by the UK has been seen by Russia and China as “total weakness”, and that is why these two countries, who are “international powers”, want to move into Greenland.
President Trump posted: “Shockingly, our “brilliant” NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital U.S. Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER.
“There is no doubt that China and Russia have noticed this act of total weakness.
“These are International Powers who only recognize STRENGTH, which is why the United States of America, under my leadership, is now, after only one year, respected like never before.”
The US Leader described the Island of Diego Garcia as an “extremely important land”, and said, Denmark alongside its European allies “have to do the right thing” on Greenland.
He said, America needs the Island of Greenland for “national security reasons”.
President Trump further posted: “The UK giving away extremely important land is an act of GREAT STUPIDITY, and is another in a very long line of National Security reasons why Greenland has to be acquired.
“Denmark and its European Allies have to DO THE RIGHT THING.”
For refusing to allow America take over Greenland, Trump slammed Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK), and other countries in the European Union (EU), with a “10%” tariff on goods sent to the US effective February 1, 2026.
Reacting to the tariff threat, Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the UK, said, it is “completely wrong” for the Trump administration to “apply” tariffs on its allies.
Emmanuel Macron, French President, described Trump’s tariff threats as “unacceptable”.
Trump sternly warned that, if the “refusal” for the US to purchase Greenland continues, the tariff will be hiked to “25%”.
