English broadcaster and journalist, Piers Morgan , has suggested that, the United Kingdom (UK) should “repurchase” the United States of America (USA).
The media personality made the suggestion after Donald Trump, President of the United States, slammed a “10%” tariff effective February 1, 2026 on the UK, Denmark, France, Germany, and other countries in the European Union (EU) for “refusing” to allow America take charge of Greenland, the world’s largest Island.
The US President said, the tariff will burgeon to “25%” on June 1, 2026 if the deal for the “complete and total purchase” of Greenland is not reached.
The English writer said, Britain should buy America back, adding, “it was ours once after all”.
He said, if Trump refuses to sell America to Britain, then, the UK should go ahead and “impose” tariffs on the US.
On the Greenland “game”, Trump said, he only can play it “successfully” with the Chinese and Russians, who have shown interest in the autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark.
Piers Morgan posted on X: “Britain should repurchase America. After all, it was ours once, and it would enhance our North Atlantic security. If you don’t sell it to us, President Trump, we’re going to impose tariffs on the U.S. and any country who supports you in resisting this very good deal. Fair?”
Trump said, America needs to buy Greenland for security of America and the world; warning, if Denmark and other European countries continue to refuse his offer for Greenland, then, “world peace is at stake!”
Scottish politician who has served as First Minister of Scotland since 2024, John Swinney, criticized Trump for threatening tariffs on its allies for not supporting his proposed takeover of Greenland.
Additional duties should not be used as a “bargaining chip” in discussions between trade partners, Swinney said.
