Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United: Dorgu rescue Reds at home

Danish left wing-back, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, scored a first half volley that helped Manchester United climb to fifth in the Premier League 2025/26 table with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Friday 26 December, 2025.

United Portuguese head coach, Ruben Amorim, returned to a back four with a tactical change to 4-2-3-1 formation which had Dorgu playing from the right wing – a change that looked like it confused Eddie Howe’s Magpies – with Benjamin Sesko and Casemiro going close.

Howe, however, made adjustments, but, Dorg’s volley went past goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

The Denmark international, twenty-one (21) years of age, has had his troubles following his arrival from Italian football outfit, Lecce, last winter. He went ahead to impress at United.

Sesko had an effort that struck the crossbar on the counter-attack; Newcastle United did not fail to heighten the pressure in the second 45 minutes with Lewis Hall hitting the under side of the bar himself.

The maximum points elevates Manchester United to fifth on the table with twenty-one (29) points, same points as Chelsea, who are 4th, while, Newcastle United are 11th with twenty-three (23) points.

English defender, Ayden Heaven, for his beautiful contribution to Manchester United’s victory was awarded the Player Of The Match.
