Pep Guardiola, Manchester head coach, has confessed fielding against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park is not “easy”.
The Spaniard’s comment is coming after the Cityzens suffered a 2-1 loss against Eddie Howe’s Magpies in the Premier League 2025/26 match on Saturday 22 November, 2025.
The former Barcelona manager said, Manchester City “gave everything”, however, added, St. James’ Park is “not an easy place to come” for a showdown.
After a first 45 minutes that registered no goal, the home side went in front in the 63rd minute through English winger, Harvey Barnes, but, Guardiola’s side fought back and equalized through Ruben Dias in the 68th minute.
Newcastle United, determined to cart all three (3) points from the clash, found the back of the net for the second time after Barnes completed his brace in the 70th minute.
Following the defeat, Guardiola said on Manchester City’s official X account: “We gave everything.
“We wanted to make a step like we have done in the last two months but this is not an easy place to come after the international break.
“There is a long, long, long way to go.”
The Magpies would have recorded more goals, but, were denied severally by City goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.
In their next match, Manchester City will face German side, Bayer Leverkusen, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 25 November, 2025 at 21:00 (WAT).
