The nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been approved by the National Council of State.
Amupitan’s nomination was approved at the meeting, Chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the Vice President, Kashim Shettima; Governors, alongside other top personalities in attendance.
VP Shettima made known via X: “The National Council of State has approved the nomination of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) from the North-Central as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (@inecnigeria).
“The meeting, chaired by President @officialABAT, had in attendance Vice President @KashimSM, governors, former Heads of State, former Chief Justices, and other eminent Nigerians.”
Following Amupitan’s approval, President Tinubu presided over the Nigeria Police Council Meeting. At the meeting, issues such as “banditry and kidnapping” were discussed.
Also, “strategic” preparations for the 2027 general elections were discussed.
Shettima said: “Immediately following that meeting, President @officialABAT presided over the Nigeria Police Council meeting.
“Central to the discussions were the spate of banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence — as well as strategic preparations for the 2027 general elections.”
