President Ruto expands Kenya’s National Youth Service recruitment from 20,000 to 100,000

President of Kenya, William Ruto, has announced, his government is expanding the country’s National Youth Service (NYS) from the current “20,000 to 100,000” by the year 2028.

This is “largest expansion” in the history of the NYC, Ruto said.

Ruto said, his administration is embarking on “far-reaching” reforms that will bring about the transformation of the National Youth Service (NYS) into an institution that is “dynamic and productive”.

The Kenyan President added, the reforms will strengthen the NYS to be able to equip young Kenyans with “market-relevant skills and qualifications”.

The National Youth Service (NYS) is an establishment under the government of Kenya with the mission to train young people in important national matters.

President Ruto made known via X: “We are undertaking far-reaching reforms to transform the National Youth Service (NYS) into a dynamic and productive institution; one that is truly fit for purpose, and capable of equipping our young people with market-relevant skills and qualifications that prepare them for the opportunities of the modern job market.

“Through structured training with industry partners, NYS graduates will be able to advance into higher learning, join our disciplined services to defend peace and security, or venture into enterprise.

“To ensure more young Kenyans benefit, we are expanding recruitment into the NYS from the current 20,000 to 100,000 by the year 2028, the largest expansion in its history.

“During the NYS Recruits Passing-Out Parade, at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, where over 18,000 recruits graduated.”
