Senator Shehu Sani has blamed the authorities concerned for the train derailment that happened in the morning of Tuesday 26 August, 2025 “between Kaduna and Abuja”.
He said, the mishap occured due to “negligence by the authorities”.
No passenger was killed in the incident, however, seven (7) sustained various degrees of injury, as disclosed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The agency with the mission to tackle disasters in Nigeria made known through its Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the inured passengers were taken to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.
Senator Shehu Sani reacted: “The Abuja Kaduna Train that derailed today is a direct result of negligence by the authorities concerned.
“For months,passengers have repeatedly complained about their experience on the track but were ignored. The expansive Bush between Kaduna and Abuja is not a place to be treated lightly.”
In her update on the train derailment via X, Mrs. Umar posted: “Led our team at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to the scene of the train derailment incident at KM49 between Kubwa station and Asham station, Abuja, to rescue and evacuate passengers on board the train.
“With the support of other sister disaster management bodies, which include the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other paramilitary outfits, response and other interventions were swiftly and successfully carried out, with no fatality recorded, and normalcy has since been restored.
“While a new train was deployed to evacuate passengers, all casualties are currently receiving urgent medical attention at the Kubwa General Hospital.”
