Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, said, it is necessary to employ “digitalization through through e-filing, virtual hearings, AI, and blockchain”, if we must deliver “timely and transparent” justice.
Eno said, the move will help “speed up” trials, ensure prisons are decongested, as well as, bolster confidence in Nigeria’s judicial system.
The Governor made the statement in Ikot Ekpene when he declared open the top Management Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Justice on Thursday 21 August, 2025.
Eno praised the Federal Ministry of Justice for making Akwa Ibom the choice State for the Retreat.
Governor Eno posted on X: “In Ikot Ekpene, I declared open the top Management Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Justice, where I spoke on the theme “Embracing Innovation for Justice Excellence.”
“I emphasized that to deliver timely and transparent justice, we must embrace digitalization, through e-filing, virtual hearings, AI, and blockchain to speed up trials, decongest prisons, and deepen confidence in our judicial system.
“In Akwa Ibom, we have already adopted e-governance by creating a Ministry of Science and Digital Economy, building digital case management systems, providing technology-driven evidence rooms, and making provisions for forensic labs and the Office of the Public Defender.
“I commend the Federal Ministry of Justice for choosing our State for this important retreat. I welcome participants also to experience the strides we are making under the ARISE Agenda.”
