First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a donation of ₦1 billion to support the “rebuilding and resettlement” of displaced families in Benue State.
The First Lady made the donation on Tuesday in Benue State as she joined the people and Executive Governor of the State, Hyacinth Alia, in “mourning and consoling” families who have suffered “tragic consequences” due to “violent attacks and displacement by armed herders”.
Governor Alia made known via X: “I had the honour of receiving the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, @SenRemiTinubu, in Benue State, as she joined us in mourning and consoling our people, who continue to suffer the tragic consequences of violent attacks and displacement by armed herders.
“In our discussions, I reiterated the urgent need for the establishment of State Police in Nigeria. The centralized security structure has repeatedly proven ineffective in addressing the persistent killings and insurgency threatening our communities.
“I also called on the First Lady to champion the regional domestication of the Open Grazing Prohibition & Ranches Establishment Law across the North Central. Uniform enforcement is essential if we are to stop the free movement of armed violators who exploit our porous borders.
“We are currently home to over 1.5 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), men, women, and children who have lost everything. Camps in Makurdi and Naka continue to swell with victims of these heinous attacks.
“Her Excellency’s compassion and support through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) have not gone unnoticed. Today, she announced a donation of ₦1 billion to support the rebuilding and resettlement of displaced families. Thank you, Her Excellency. We are sincerely grateful.
“To the good people of Benue, let me reassure you that we will not relent in our fight against terrorism until every community is safe, every home is restored, and every life protected.
“The First Lady was accompanied by the Wife of the Vice President, HE, Hajiya Nana Shettima;.the wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Her Excellency, Hon. Mrs. Regina Akume; the wife of the Deputy Senate President; the wives of the Governors of Bayelsa, Gombe, Nasarawa, Katsina, Kogi, and Taraba States; and other distinguished personalities.”
