Akume tells Northern Leaders to wait for their turn in 2031

Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Federal Republic of Nigeria, has urged Northern Leaders to patiently wait for their turn to Presidency in 2031.

Akume said, the North must ensure the protection of the sovereignty of Nigeria by “preserving rotational presidency”.

He made the statement while delivering an address at the 2-day interactive session on Government-Citizen Engagement put together by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation in Kaduna State on Tuesday 29 July, 2025.

He commenced his address by praising the “virtues” of the Late Leader, who served as Premier of Nigeria from 1954 to 1966.

Akume said, the Late Premier believed in a “united and indivisible Nigeria.”

Taking to X, Akume said: “In Kaduna, I delivered an address at the 2-day interactive session on Government-Citizen Engagement organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation. I began by extolling the virtues of the late Premier—an icon of national unity, compassion, integrity, and purposeful leadership

“Sir Ahmadu Bello believed in a united and indivisible Nigeria. He built alliances across regions, governed with justice, and remained accountable to God and to the people. On this July 29—a historically significant date—I reaffirmed our shared commitment to the values he lived by

“With a strong delegation ofCabinet members, I presented key Tinubu achievements, emphasizing the need for sustained citizen engagement. I also urged Northern leaders to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty by preserving rotational presidency- for the South to complete 2 terms by 2031”
