VP Shettima departs Abuja for Addis Ababa for UN Food Systems Summit

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for the Capital of Ehtiopia, Addis Ababa, to stand for Nigeria at the Second United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit.

The three-day event will commence on July 27 and concluded on July 29, 2025.

At the Summit, global leaders will converge “to reflect on progress” achieved since the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, as well as, to speed up commitments towards “building sustainable food systems”.

According to the official X account of the VP: “The Vice President, Senator @KashimSM, has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to represent Nigeria at the Second United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit, being held from July 27 to 29, 2025.

“Senator @KashimSM will join other global leaders at the high-level event on advancing the transformation of the coffee value chain, as well as engage in roundtables and meetings aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s food security drive.

“The Summit will bring together global leaders to reflect on progress made since the inaugural 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and to accelerate commitments towards building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems.

“The Vice President will also participate in other events on the sidelines of the Summit, designed to spotlight real-world examples of food systems transformation, promote knowledge exchange and partnerships, and inspire collective action through evidence-based solutions and creative expression.

“Among the events on the sidelines is a ministerial roundtable on public finance, trade, and responsible investment to accelerate the transition, along with field trips and networking sessions.”
