Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in paying final respects to His Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.
Oba Adetona passed on Sunday 13 July, 2025 after more than sixty (60) years on the throne.
The Governor described the Late Awujale of Ijebuland as a “symbol of Yoruba pride” whose contributions cannot be erased from the Yourba history.
President Tinubu said, the Monarch was a “towering custodian of our culture and a symbol of truth.”
Governor Abiodun wrote on his official X account: “We joined His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other dignitaries at the 8th Day Fidau Prayer in honour of our revered father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON. At the solemn event, Mr. President paid glowing tributes to Kabiyesi, acknowledging his steadfast support during the June 12 struggle and his critical role in the 2023 presidential election. He described the late monarch as bold, truthful, and a symbol of Yoruba pride whose contributions cannot be excluded from our history.
“As a government and as a people, we recalled with deep respect how Kabiyesi served as a moral compass and advocate for the less privileged. His reign was marked by profound development, cultural preservation, and the promotion of religious harmony across Ijebuland and Ogun State at large.
“We are grateful to God for the long and impactful life of our royal father, and we enjoin all citizens to reflect on his enduring legacies and continue to work together for peace, unity, and progress in our dear state and nation.”
President Tinubu wrote on his official X account: “I paid my final respects to a leader, a father, and a towering custodian of our culture, His Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.
“He was a symbol of truth, integrity, and courage whose life defined Yoruba honour and Nigerian greatness.”
