Tributes to Former President Buhari
Festus Keyamo via X:
SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO LATE PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI
This is to pay special tribute to my boss, my leader and mentor, President Muhammadu Buhari whom I served as Minister of State during his tenure as civilian President.
He served this country unblemished in different capacities, but notably as Military Head of State (1984-1985) and as elected President (2015-2023). He is only one of two persons to have served twice like this, the other being President Olusegun Obasanjo.
They don’t make them like him anymore: not given to primitive acquisition of unearned wealth, frugal in living, austere in lifestyle, not inclined to showboating and incredibly honest to the core. In fact he lived all his life in full realisation that such a day would inevitably come when he would answer to his Creator.
“As he journeys home, I wish his widow, his children and extended families the Grace of God and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss; my deep condolences to them and to the country as a whole that have lost a great patriot and nationalist.
“Adieu, Mr. President.”
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar via X: “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a man whose life was defined by unflinching patriotism, stoic discipline, and a lifelong commitment to the sovereignty and unity of our great nation.
“President Buhari was not just a former Head of State, he was a symbol of Nigeria’s resilience. From the battlefield to the corridors of power, he served with the kind of austere conviction and firm belief in duty that marked him as a soldier of principle and a leader of formidable will.
“His death is not just a loss to his immediate family and the people of Daura, it is a profound national tragedy. Nigeria has lost a statesman who bore the burdens of leadership in both turbulent and triumphant times and whose legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
“To his beloved family, I offer my deepest condolences. I pray for strength and comfort in this time of grief. To the people of Katsina State and the entire nation, I mourn with you. May we all take solace in the knowledge that he gave his life to the service of Nigeria and never wavered in his belief in her promise.
“May Allah, the Most Merciful, forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.”
Omoyele Swore via X: “Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari slaughtered hundreds of Shiites, men, women, and even children
“He ordered soldiers of the @HQNigerianArmy to open fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters waving the Nigerian flag.
“He “disappeared” Dadiyata.
“He ordered the massacre of young Southeasterners he branded IPOB.
“He disobeyed court orders, jailed critics arbitrarily, destroyed the economy, and ruined everything he touched.
“And now, because he’s dead, some people with selective memory want us to mourn or worship him?
“Shameful.
“NO, we do not mourn tyrants. We remember their victims.”
