COP 29: ‘We are in the final countdown to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C’ – UN Chief Guterres

Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, has charged the Climate Conference not to “fail”, saying, “We are in the final countdown to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C”.

COP 29 is currently ongoing in Baku, Azerbaijan; it began on Monday 11 November, 2024 and will conclude on Friday 22 November, 2024.

Guterres said, “#COP29 must deliver a new ambitious climate finance goal that sees a surge in funds for #ClimateAction.”

At the Conference, Azerbaijan pledged $1.2 billion for development of green projects until 2030; and Sweden pledged $370 million to the United Nations (UN) Green Climate Fund.

According to Guterres: “We are in the final countdown to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
