PSG reach FIFA Club World Cup semi finals after 2-0 win over Bayern Munich

Uefa Champions League 2024/25 winner, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), defeated German Bundesliga 2024/25 winners, Bayern Munich, 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 despite ending up with only nine players on the pitch, to book a semifinal tie with either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund.

An outstanding first 45 minutes at at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta ended without a goal despite chances for both sides, including a header by Bayern centre back Dayot Upamecano that was chalked off for offside.

Bayern Geman forward Jamal Musiala picked up a suspected broken ankle after colliding with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Desire Doue finally broke the deadlock for the French side in the 78th minute with a beautifully taken strike, however, four minutes later the French side went down to 10 men after Willian Pacho was red carded for a dangerous foul.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern piled pressure in the final minutes and English forward, Harry Kane, had a goal struck out for offside, while PSG went down to nine players two minutes into stoppage time after Lucas Hernandez was sent off for throwing an elbow into Raphael Guerreiro’s face.

As the German side kept on fighting for an equaliser, PSG broke on the counter deep into additional time and Achram Hakimi manoeuvred through several Bayern players to tee up substitute Ousmane Dembele, who found the back of the net to make it two for the French Champions.

Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty after a high boot by Nuno Mendes appeared to catch Thomas Muller’s head, however, it was cancelled after a review by VAR revealed the PSG defender only made contact with the ball and PSG held on until the end.
