Real Madrid progress to FIFA Club World Cup quarter finals with lone goal win over Juventus

Real Madrid scaled through Juventus to reach the quarter finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Tuesday night.

Spanish forward, Gonzalo Garcia, netted the only goal in the 54th minute, converting new addition, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assist, for Real Madrid in the round of 16 match against Juventus at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida in Tuesday 1 July, 2025.

The Bianconeri lost Nicolò Savona to a seriously sprained ankle in the 5-2 loss to English side, Manchester City, and Federico Gatti had flu symptoms, so Daniele Rugani made his made his way back to Juventus after a year at Ajax.

French forward, Kylian Mbappe, who has not featured for Xabi Alonso’s Los Blancos since the FIFA Club World Cup commenced, was introduced into the game as susbtitute for goalscorer, Garcia, in the 68th minute.

Mbappe, former Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) player, has been missing in action for Real Madrid in the tournament due to acute gastroenteritis, which forced him to be hospitalised.

The venue of the clash recorded more than 62,000 in attendance, a near full capacity.

Englishman, Alexander-Arnold, reecorded his fourth successive start at the tournament, and endured a quiet first half at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami but delivered a delicious cross from which Gonzalo Garcia nodded Madrid ahead nine minutes into the second half.

Alonso’s Los Blancos will play against whoever emerges victorious in the last-16 tie between Borussia Dortmund and Monterrey in the quarter-finals this weekend.
