A conversation between Nigerian Information Platform, News Central, and Former Minister of Education, Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Benue State.
Today, Wednesday 18 June, 2025, President Tinubu visited Benue State following the “brutal” attacks in the State, after several calls from top Nigerian political figures.
More than 100 people of the Yelewata Community in the North Central State were massacred by the attackers, an occurrence described as “very depressing” by the President.
President Tinubu visited the victims who are being medically attended at the hospital in Makurdi, the Benue Capital on arriving the State.
News Central tweeted: “Despite the state government declaring today a public holiday, pupils and students in Makurdi, Benue State, were asked to line the roads to welcome the president, braving poor weather conditions, with cars splashing water on some of them.”
Ezekwesili quoted News Central’s tweet and commented: “The saddest part is that some of these children may be from among the hundreds of families mourning their loved ones and yet are compelled to stand in the rain and give misleaders that have shown ZERO care for them a “rousing welcome”.
“Things like this are why the uncaring political class of Nigeria has nothing to disincentivize their Bad Behavior and the Poor Governance it produces.
“They believe the Nigerian citizens are conquered souls.
“Will it always be so?
“No, because there is that one Factor that our politicians never add to their equation when they become carried away with and drunk on Public Power.
“Yeah.”
The saddest part is that some of these children may be from among the hundreds of families mourning their loved ones and yet are compelled to stand in the rain and give misleaders that have shown ZERO care for them a “rousing welcome”.
