Benue State K*llings: SDP expresses ‘deep sorrow’, calls on FG to ‘prioritize security of rural communities’

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reacted to the recent “brutal killings” in Benue State which claimed more than 100 lives.

The SDP made known its “deep sorrow and outrage” following the “wanton killings” in the North Central State, and called on the Federal Government “to prioritize the security of rural communities, especially in areas vulnerable to such attacks”.

The Party expressed its “heartfelt condolences” to the families of the victims, the government of Benue State, as well as, all those affected by these “senseless acts of violence”.

The SDP reminded the Nigerian State of its constitutional duty which is to “protect the lives and property of its citizens”, saying, “anything short of that is a failure of leadership and governance”.

Via its official X account, the SDP reacted: “The Social Democratic Party (SDP) expresses deep sorrow and outrage over the recent spate of killings in Benue State that have claimed the lives of innocent citizens and left many communities in grief and fear.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the government of Benue State, and all those affected by these senseless acts of violence. This tragedy is not only a loss to the people of Benue but to all Nigerians who yearn for peace, justice, and security.

“We call on the relevant security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to investigate the attacks, bring the perpetrators to justice, and prevent any further bloodshed. It is the constitutional duty of the Nigerian state to protect the lives and property of its citizens. Anything short of that is a failure of leadership and governance.

“The SDP urges the Federal Government to prioritize the security of rural communities, especially in areas vulnerable to such attacks. We also call for greater intelligence coordination, community engagement, and early-warning mechanisms to forestall future tragedies.

“As a party that believes in social justice, peace, and the protection of human rights, the SDP stands in solidarity with the people of Benue State during this difficult time. We reaffirm our commitment to a Nigeria where every citizen can live free from fear.May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
