Fire At Kano Market: Safety in our markets must be urgently addressed – Atiku

2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has said, safety in our markets must be “urgently addressed” by instilling “stricter regulations” for how batteries and electrical goods are handled.

The former Vice President said, this will help “protect livelihoods and save lives.”

This is coming following the “tragic fire” at Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano State.

The extent of damage by the fire was minimised by the “bravery and swift action” of firefighters, which also helped in preventing loss of life.

Waziri Adamaws expressed his “deepest sympathies” to the affected traders and their families and called on the State and Federal Governments to support the affected traders and ensure that such preventable disasters are minimised.

Atiku said: “In the light of the tragic fire at Kano’s Farm Centre GSM Market, which has been confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service to have been caused by a battery explosion, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the affected traders and their families.

“I also commend the bravery and swift action of the firefighters, whose efforts prevented loss of life and minimised damages.

“We must urgently address safety in our markets by implementing stricter regulations for the handling of batteries and electrical goods in order to protect livelihoods and save lives.

“I urge both the federal and state governments to support the affected traders and ensure that such preventable disasters are minimised.”
