Akpabio V Natasha: ‘Will you give justice to the oppressed and uphold the independence of our judiciary?’ – Ezekwesili’s memo to NJC and Kekere-Ekun

Former Minister of Education, Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili, has written a memo to the National Judicial Council and Supreme Court Justice, Justice Kekere-Ekun, on matter of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Ezekwesili asked the NJC and Kekere-Ekun, “Will you give justice to the oppressed and wisely choose to uphold the integrity and independence of our Judiciary or …….?”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is currently serving a 6-month suspension slammed on her by the Ethics Committee of the Senate following her sexual harassment allegations against Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate.

Ezekwesili said, “Citizens have watched with great pain, how politicians have serially infringed on the independence and integrity of our 3rd Arm of Government.”

She said, the “Executive and Legislative Branches” have decided to join forces against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan “who has been asking for fair hearing and independent investigation of her petition against @NGRSenate President @Senator_Akpabio for sexual harassment”.

“Egregiously, they have filed a criminal case against her for “defamation of those she accused”, she added.

Memo To: The Nigerian Judiciary – National Judicial Council – @njcNig and Supreme Court Justice, Justice Kekere-Ekun on the MATTER of Senator @NatashaAkpoti .

I want to give the benefit of the doubt that it does worry you that our once-respected Judiciary currently faces a serious crisis of credibility because Citizens have watched with great pain, how politicians have serially infringed on the independence and integrity of our 3rd Arm of Government.

The Executive Branch of @NigeriaGov filed a criminal case against Senator @NatashaAkpoti siding with the person and persons she accused of sexual harassment and threat to her life.

Basically, the Executive and Legislative Branches have decided to collude against one who has been asking for fair hearing and independent investigation of her petition against @NGRSenate President @Senator_Akpabio for sexual harassment.

Egregiously, they have filed a criminal case against her for “defamation of those she accused”.

In so doing, they are seeking to intensify previous acts of intimidation launched against her since she made the allegations of sexual harassment.

Will you give justice to the oppressed and wisely choose to uphold the integrity and independence of our Judiciary or …….?
