Senator Usman’s farewell tribute to Chief Edwin Clark Below:
A Farewell Tribute to a Titan of Our Time – Sen. Chief Dr. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark
It is with a heart heavy with grief, but full of gratitude for a life well lived, that I join millions of Nigerians to bid farewell to an icon, a rare gem, and a towering pillar of truth and justice, Sen. Chief Dr. Edwin K. Clark.
I had the solemn honour of receiving his body alongside His Excellency, former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the Governor of Bayelsa State, H.E Sen. Douye Diri, H.E. Mr. Peter Obi, and other respected dignitaries. We gathered not just to mourn, but to celebrate the life of a man whose impact on our nation and its people will echo through generations.
From the commendation service at the Ijaw National Council House to the final farewell in Kiagbodo, Delta State, we were joined by present and past Governors, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, State Assembly members, revered Traditional Rulers, and many distinguished Nigerians, all united by a singular truth: Chief Clark was a man of unwavering conviction, fierce patriotism, and uncommon courage.
He was not just a leader; he was a father to the Ijaw Nation, a defender of minority rights, a teacher, a bridge-builder, and a champion of equity and inclusion. His voice was a conscience to power, and his presence in our political and national life was both stabilizing and inspiring.
As a former Senator and lifelong public servant, I drew strength from his wisdom, boldness, and relentless pursuit of justice. Chief Clark taught us that silence in the face of oppression is complicity and that the true measure of leadership is not in titles held but in lives touched and truth upheld.
As we lay him to rest, we do not say goodbye forever. We say thank you. Thank you for the battles you fought, the truths you spoke, the paths you paved, and the legacy you left behind.
Rest well, our dear father, statesman, and elder.Your light will continue to shine in our hearts, and your voice will forever echo in the halls of history.
