Tensions between India and Pakistan, nuclear-armed neighbours, heightened dramatically on Wednesday, marking the most serious military clash in over twenty (20) years.
Heavy shelling and gunfire were exchanged across the border and civilian casualties have been reported on both sides—10 deaths have been recorded and 48 injured in Indian Kashmir, and six dead in regions controlled by Pakistan.

Antonio Guterres, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, alongside Leaders of China and Russia pleaded with both sides for restraint.
The UN Chief said, “military solution is no solution.”
