The conclave to elect a new Pope to begin May 7

The Conclave, which is the gathering of the College of Cardinals convened to elect the Bishop of Rome, also referred to as the Pope, will begin on May 7, the Holy See Press Office revealed.

The decision was made on Monday at their fifth General Congregation by the Cardinals present in Rome.

According to Vatican News (X/@VaticanNews): “The conclave to elect a new Pope will begin on May 7 according to the Holy See Press Office. The Cardinals present in Rome made the decision on Monday at their fifth General Congregation. The conclave will take place in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, which remain closed to visitors during those days.”

This is coming following the passing of Pope Francis. His Holiness passed at the age of eighty-eight (88) on Easter Monday, 21 April, 2025.
