The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has released the situation report for diphtheria in Nigeria for week 11.
In its report, NCDC revealed, “42,805 total suspected cases, and 1 new death.”
NCDC, saddled with the ‘mandate to lead the preparedness, detection and response to infectious disease outbreaks and public health emergencies’, reports:
- New suspected cases: 16
- Total suspected cases: 42,805
- New confirmed cases: 3
- Total confirmed cases: 25,977
- New deaths: 1
- Total deaths: 1,331
- States affected: 36 + FCT
- LGAs affected: 351
NCDC cautions: “Diphtheria remains a public health concern. Ensure vaccination and early detection to prevent severe outcomes.”
