On Sunday, two people lost their lives when a commercial Toyota Hiace bus crashed into a truck parked by the roadside, close to the Police CID Annex on Onitsha-Awka Expressway, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said.

The tragic occurrence is contained in a statement released by the spokesperson of the FRSC, Anambra Command, Mrs Margaret Onabe.
The statement said, the accident happened around 8:45pm and involved a truck with number plate FKJ 22 and a Toyota Hiace bus with number plate GDD 68 ZP.
The FRSC statement revealed: “Probable causes of the crash were road obstruction and excessive speed.
“According to an eyewitness report, the truck developed a fault and was abandoned by the truck driver after placing caution signs at the front and rear of the vehicle.
“The bus driver who was on speed rammed into the truck from the rear and crashed.”
12 commuters in the Toyota Hiace bus – two died, and five sustained various levels of injuries.
The statement said, Adeoye Irelewuyi, Commander, Anambra Sector of the FRSC, has offered his condolences to the families of the dead as well as sent his wishes of quick recovery to the injured.
The Command sent warning to motorist to stop overspeeding and adhere to recommended speed limits.
