Khalid Zadran, Kabul Police spokesman, said, another 33 people sustained various degrees of injuries.
The explosion happened during prayers in the evening and the Imam of the mosque is among the dead, report says.
According to BBC:
It is unclear who was behind the attack, a week after a prominent so-called Islamic State (IS) militants killed a pro-Taliban cleric in a suicide bomb blast, also in Kabul.
IS has emerged as the most potent enemy of the Taliban, who seized control over Afghanistan last year. The two groups are now engaged in a murky and bloody battle.
The explosion scene in Kabul has been sealed off by security forces.
According to descriptions by witnesses, they heard a strong explosion which smashed windows into pieces in nearby buildings.
One of the eyewitnesses told Reuters News Agency: “I saw that so many people were killed, even people were thrown out of the windows of the mosque.”
