Uefa Champions League: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid – Los Blancos shine in Glasgow

Real Madrid travelled to Glasgow for their first European night of the new season. It was a totally different atmosphere to the typical La Liga match.

Celtic Park was packed to rafters and the crowd was in all their glory getting to see the hometown side against the European Champions.

After an up and down first half, Madrid’s quality took hold and provided a 3-0 victory. Goals from Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric, and Eden Hazard sentenced the match.

According to SBNATION (Managing Madrid):

Thibaut Courtois – 8.5 – was massive in net for Real Madrid. A total of four saves, three of which came from inside the box. Was composed with the ball at his feet and helped Madrid manage a chaotic first 20 minutes.

Goalscorer Luka Modric was in total control of the midfield and recorded more than 100 touches.

Another goalscorer Vinicius Jr was a constant disturbance to the Celtic defense throughout the encounter.

Madrid French striker Karim Benzema was injured in the 30th minute and was replaced by Eden Hazard who sealed victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side with the third goal in the 77th minute.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti, in his post-match comments, said: “The team played very very well in the second half, I’m very happy. Also with the first half, sometimes we have to suffer, and the team did it without losing their heads. The second half was a recital.”

On the other side of Group F, RB Leipzig fell 1-4 to Shakhtar Donetsk. Mohamed Simakan scored for the German side in the 57th minute. Goalscorers for the Ukrainian side are; Marian Shved (16′, 58′), Mykhaylo Mudryk (76′) and Lassina Traoré (85′).
