Obi also said, “it is nobody’s turn” to be President of the country. He went ahead to assure that next year’s elections will have nothing to do with religion and will definitely “not be based on ethnicity”. The Labour Party Presidential flagbearer is of the belief that, there is nowhere Christians/Muslims buy things cheaper or Yoruba/Hausa have free access to dividends of democracy than others in the country, therefore, the 2023 Elections “must be based on character and trust”.
The former Anambra State Governor further believes that corruption will be 70% if a leader is not stealing and the people that surround him very closely are not stealing.
He said: “We will do this retreat now, after the election we will do another one. the election next year will not be based on ethnicity, we have had it before, it would not be on religion.
“There is no place that Christians buy things cheaper, there is no place that Muslims buy things cheaper. It will not be by my turn, it is nobody’s turn. It must not be by connection. Election next year must be based on character and trust, it must be based on competence.”
“If a leader is not stealing, and the family around him are not stealing we will reduce corruption by 70 percent. I was Governor for eight years, there is nowhere money is missing.
“I am in this retreat to listen, let us put it in writing when we succeed, you must be around to say this is what we have agreed on. Even if we don’t achieve 100 percent, we must have made sacrifices.”

National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barrister Julius Abure, in his welcome address, said, Nigeria now has a beautiful opportunity to reshape how Politics should be played, and that the current problems the country is facing are due to failure on the side of the leaders.
“Our leaders do not have what it takes to drive development. This is what has been lacking, no one is safe, insecurity has taken over something needs to be done urgently and I am happy Nigerians are ready for the real change not like the APC change in 2015.”
He expressed joy about the fact that Nigerians are joining the Labour Party family on a daily basis and pleaded with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) as well as other affiliates of Labour, to join forces and ensure that this beautiful opportunity does not go to waste.

“we need to go back to production, which will tackle unemployment. Corruption is an organized crime against the Nigerian public,” he said.
He further said, strikes and protests are not huge enough to solve Nigeria’s numerous challenges, but, Nigerians should channel all that energy into working for the installation of good leadership in the country.
He concluded by saying that Labour Party has all the required structures to move Nigeria forward.
