Biblical Loyalty: Part 2 – Great Covenants – ‘All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth’

‘Great Covenants’ simply means those types of covenants that are Biblical i.e Biblical Covenants. Please, do not misunderstand this to mean any type of covenant.

All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimony
All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimony

Here, I will be sharing with us some servants of God who actually entered into covenants with God, as well as blessings for being loyal to God’s covenants.

The Introduction to Biblical Loyalty Part 1 – this is explanation of what ‘Biblical Loyalty’ is all about and the characteristics. This will help you grasp what is involved in being loyal to the Almighty God – the creator of heaven and earth. Joshua 24:15 says “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

It takes one making a personal and unconditional choice to be loyal to the King of Kings. Are you ready? Make sure you are sincere with your answer.

Memory Verse: Psalm 25:10“All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimony”.

The memory verse tells us how the Lord deals with people who are humbly and sincerely loyal to Him, which is characterized by endless care and faithfulness.

David, in his own life, had experiences with the Lord’s love and faithfulness. God had shielded David severally when he faced impending danger. He had witnessed the protection of God even when he was a shepherd boy from a bear and a lion. 1 Samuel 17:34-35 says “And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock. And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.”

Subsequently, in love and faithfulness, the Lord had handed David a beautiful triumph over Goliath. Read 1 Samuel 17:49-51. Also, the Lord kept him protected when Saul attempted to kill him. Read 1 Samuel 18:11.

Texts: Genesis 9:15, 17:12; Deuteronomy 5:1; Acts 3:25; Hebrews 8:6.

Introduction

Our focus is in those covenants that are Biblical.

So, Biblical Covenant is an association between God and humans, with Jesus Christ as the mediator. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 says “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Loyalty can be referred to mean the addition of our complete commitment to God as a result of the covenant we have with Him. Matthew 6:24 says “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” On the other hand, Loyalty can as well be referred to as the faithfulness of God towards the covenant He made with us.

Even when we are faced with challenges, it calls for our truthfulness and faithfulness to the Almighty God. Loyalty is based on trust.

Biblical Instances of men who entered into covenants with God

God reminds us that the covenant he entered with Noah is still existent by the Rainbow
God reminds us that the covenant he entered with Noah is still existent by the Rainbow

  1. Moses And The Children Of Israel: Read Exodus 34:28 – Moses was with God for forty days and forty nights; he neither ate nor drank just for the sake of the covenant God was to make with the people of Israel through Moses on the mountain (Mount Sinai) where he was handed the Ten Commandments. Severally, God’s people were told to avoid worshipping idols or entering into covenant with them. Idolatry simply means placing something (anything at all) ahead of God. This practice fills our lives with temptation. In our world today, diverse kinds of things have become idols such as beauty, money, reputation, success, career, power, fame, work, pleasure etc. I believe no one decides to idolize these things, however, they tend to mature into gods that eventually take control of our thoughts and actions as the amount of time they occupy in our lives heighten. The good news is, when we allow God to occupy the central spot in our lives, these things are automatically prevented from becoming small gods. Read Deuteronomy 5:1 – The children of Israel entered into a covenant with God. There is the need for Christians (who have surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ) to be sensitive to what God expects as they enter into covenant with God when they decide to give their loyalty to Him.
  2. Noah: Read Genesis 9:8-17 – Noah exited the Ark and stepped on an empty earth (completely without human life). Due to Noah’s loyalty to God’s covenants, he received promises. The covenant God entered with Noah is still existent as the planet’s (earth) seasons remain intact and we are constantly being reminded of God’s faithfulness to His word by the Rainbow.
  3. Abraham: Read Genesis 17:1-8 – God told Abraham, the Father of many nations, a native of Ur in Mesopotamia, “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly…”. God’s message for us, His children, still remains the same, only if we can be loyal to Him. God is the only being with the power and might to supply all our needs.

Blessings Of Loyalty To God’s Covenants

The Blessing involved are endless, impossible to count (for man). I will share just few of these blessings. It takes obedience to God’s covenants commandments to enjoy these blessings.

  1. Peace with God: Inner joy, sanctification as well as other spiritual blessings as new creatures in Jesus Christ. Read 2 Corinthians 5:15-16.
  2. The covering of the blood of Jesus: This is the blood that spiritually purifies our soul, spirit and body so that we may commit ourselves to serving the one, true, living God. Read Hebrews 12:22-24 “…And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.”
  3. A reestablishment of God to us, alongside the world unto Himself: Not counting our sins. By this, we become ambassadors of God on earth.
  4. Divine Mercy
  5. Divine Protection
  6. Divine Provision
  7. Divine Enlargement
  8. Fruitfulness
  9. Answers to prayers
  10. Salvation

Conclusion

We are builders of faith unto God through sharing His gospel.

Loyalty has a crucial role to play before the blessings can be bestowed upon us

God is forever loyal in keeping covenants from generation to generation of those who are faithful to Him.

We are God’s covenant children and He is ready to guard us to the end of the world as long as we stay loyal to Him.

Prayer Point: Every satanic covenant in my foundation, be uprooted by the mighty hand of God, in the name of Jesus. Amen!

Feel free to share this Truth. The word of God is nothing but the Truth. And only the Truth can set us free!
