The Presidency through Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, has said, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has “no connection” with the “crisis” in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Responding to Peter Obi’s media people on X, Onanuga wondered “why all these incompetent politicians are turning President Bola Tinubu into their favourite whipping boy”.
He said, President Tinubu “has nothing to do with Obi’s abandonment of the Labour Party or the jam he appears to have run into in the ADC”.
Onanuga said, after the former Governor of Anambra State contested for the Office of the President of Nigeria under the Labour Party in 2023, Obi “dumped it in a classic case of use-and-dump”. He said, Obi should have shown leadership and resolved the ‘Papa, Mama and Pikin’ Party’s Leadership crisis.
The Special Adviser said, “Instead, he went to the embrace of the Obidient movement, which is more active online”.
Onanuga asked, “What is the connection of Tinubu with the ADC crisis?” And, he answered, “Absolutely none. Whatever problem they have is self-inflicted”.
He opined, Obi and his new Party members should come together and resolve the issues in the ADC and then vie for the Presidential ticket.
Onanuga then said, if Obi fails to emerge a candidate, he is automatically not qualified to contest in the 2027 Presidential Election.
Onanuga said: “Obi and his co-travellers need to get their acts together, clear the mess in their new party and then compete for the presidential ticket.
“Let them go and settle with Nafiu Gombe and other disenchanted ADC members. As of now, Obi, without being made a candidate, is inconsequential for 2027.”
He said, President Tinubu is an incumbent and has achieved a lot, most of which Obi has refused to acknowledge, adding, “all this blackmail against the President is sheer baloney, a very unfair attempt to besmirch his democratic credentials”.
Onanuga said: “President Tinubu is an incumbent with many achievements to flaunt, most of which Obi has been blind to acknowledge.”
