At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers United returned to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2025/26 with a 1-0 victory over Plateau United on Sunday 12 April, 2026.
The Pride of Rivers, who slipped to second after losing in their previous top flight encounter, netted their winner early, in the 10th minute, through Wisdom Samuel after converting an assist from Taofeek Otaniyi.

The victory means the hosts have their “fortress defended” successfully; and are now atop the table with fifty-eight (58) points, trailed by Enugu Rangers, who have accumulated fifty-six (56) points, while, Plateau United are 8th with forty-six (46) points; all three after thirty-four (34) games.
After the game, Rivers United posted on X: “One goal was all it took! Fortress defended. +3 in the bag”
