The mission to reach the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 semi finals is now more difficult for Liverpool after the Premier League 2024/25 Champions suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) in their quarter final first leg on Wednesday 8 April, 2026.
French attacking midfielder, Desire Doue, netted the opener and Georgian winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, found the second following a feeble defending from the visitors at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.
The result means Liverpool have now conceded a fourth successive away loss for the first time since April, 2012, according to Opta Stats.
The Les Parisiens would have expanded the margin, but, were wasteful with goal chances. Also, Georgian goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, made some jaw-dropping saves for the Reds from Doue, Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi as the hosts piled pressure.
The home side went in front when Doue found the back of the net in the 11th minute, and Kvaratskhelia converted Joao Nevez’ assist to make it two (2) for PSG in the 65th minute.
PSG made sure to punish Liverpool as the French side massively outclassed their English visitors on Wednesday night right on home turf.
Slot’s Reds will be looking to improve as they gear up for the second leg of the tie when they welcome the Ligue 1 toppers at Anfield next week Tuesday.
At his post-defeat press conference, Liverpool manager, Slot, confessed, his side barely “survived” the pressure from PSG.
Slot said: “When we pressed them high we were ripped apart. The second half of the game for us was more about surviving.”
