My decisions willl always be in the interest of the country, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, said on X.
The UK PM’s statement is coming as a reaction to the tensions in the Gulf region.
Starmer made it clear in his statement, his government will not allow his country get “dragged” into the conflict in the Middle East.
The conflict in West Asia between the US and Israeli forces and Iran has forced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States (US), told Al Jazeera, President Donald Trump “always prefers diplomacy”, but warned Iran of “real consequences” over the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
PM Starmer said: “I will always make decisions that are in the national interest.
“It’s why we aren’t getting dragged into the Middle East conflict, and why we are fighting to protect your living standards.”
As the fighting continues, the Israeli Ministry of Defence (MOD) disclosed on X, it has signed “approx $48m” deal for “tens of thousands of land munitions”.
On Starmer’s reaction to the economic impact of the war on UK, Sky reports:
The prime minister will chair a Cobra meeting this afternoon, where senior ministers will discuss the economic impact of the war.
Sir Keir Starmer said yesterday this meeting will look at “making sure that everything that we need to have in place, everything is monitored and audited properly”.
