Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; Current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani; and Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; have sent their “heartfelt” condolences to the El-Rufai family following the passing of Hajia Umma El-Rufai.
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, passed in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving treatment.
Atiku described the news as a “shocking development”, and said, Hajiya Umma lived “in dignity and service to family”.
Tambuwal expressed “deep sorrow” after receiving the news of the passing of Hajiya Umma as he extended his condolences to the El-Rufai family.
He said, the passing of a mother is “deeply personal and truly irreplaceable”.
On behalf of the Government and people of Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani, extended his “deepest” condolences and described Hajiya Umma as a “woman of rare grace”.
Ribadu made known his “deep sadness” on the passing of Hajiya Umma. The NSA said, he has “fond memories of shared moments” with the matriarch of the El-Rufai family.

Atiku wrote on X: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
“The news of the demise of Hajia Umma El-Rufai is a shocking development.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the @elrufai family and friends and pray that Allah (SWT) accepts her soul and grant her Al-Janna Firdaus.
“Hajia Umma lived to a prime old age in dignity and service to family and community. She was a woman of sound faith and her passing on the day of Jumu’ah is a source of consolation to the family.
Aminu Tambuwal wrote on X: “I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of the mother of former Governor @elrufai, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the entire El-Rufai family, and all those affected by this painful loss.
“The loss of a mother is deeply personal and truly irreplaceable. We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT), in His infinite mercy, forgives her shortcomings, grants her Aljannatul Firdaus, and comforts the family with the strength and patience to bear this great loss.
“May her life and legacy remain a source of comfort and enduring inspiration to all who knew her.”
Governor Uba Sani wrote on X: “On behalf of the Government and people of Kaduna State, I extend my deepest condolences to His Excellency, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and the entire El-Rufai family on the passing of their beloved mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
“Hajiya Umma El-Rufai was not only a devoted mother and matriarch, but also a woman of rare grace, moral clarity, and quiet strength.
“In this hour of grief, I stand in solemn solidarity with the El-Rufai family, praying that Almighty Allah will forgive her shortcomings, accept her righteous deeds, and grant her eternal repose in Aljannatul Firdaus.”
Ribadu wrote on X: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, the matriarch of the El-Rufai family. I have fond memories of shared moments with her and her motherly care.
