Kane missing as Bayern Munich whitewash Atalanta 6-1 in Bergamo

French attacking midfielder, Michael Olise, fielded in place of Europe’s top scorer, Harry Kane, as German Bundesliga defending champions, Bayern Munich, made light work of Italian Serie A side, Atalanta, 6-1, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 round of 16 first leg match at New Balance Arena in Bergamo,Italy on Tuesday 10 March, 2026.

The France international starred in the absence of England Captain, Kane, who was only fit enough for a place on the bench after coming back from a calf injury.

In the 12th minute, Olise’s corner located Serge Gnabry, who was unmarked and provided for Josip Stanisic, who opened the scoring for Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians.

Olise then made it two (2) for Bayern in the 22nd minute with an assist from defender, Dayot Upamecano. Three (3) minutes later, the former Crystal Palace player, turned provider for Gnabry, who added the third.

The goal galore continued after the break as Luis Diaz assisted Senegal striker, Nicolas Jackson, who scored the fourth for Bayern in the 52nd minute.

Olise added the fifth for the visitors, converting Alphonso Davies’ assist in the 64th minute, and Jamal Musiala netted the sixth in the 67th minute with Jackson’s assist.

However, a late Mario Pasalic response in the 3rd minute of additional time for Atalanta means Bayern Munich were unable to return home with a clean sheet.

Bayern Munich’s huge win on Tuesday night means the German Bundesliga 2025/26 toppers have now successfully extended their unbeaten run away from home to nine (9) games, as well as, positioned themselves firmly ahead of the second leg match next week at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
