Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, has expressed his joy following his side’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the Premier League 2025/26 match.
The Spaniard made known in his post-match press conference that, he cannot be “prouder and happier” after what he has seen his Gunners display in the top flight clash against the Spurs.
In the North London Derby on Sunday 22 February, 2026, Arsenal discomfited Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on the road, with beautiful goals from Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres.
Eze and Gyökeres recorded their names on the score sheet twice, both with the brace to ease some pressure off the shoulders of the manager following the disappointing outcome between Arsenal and bottom club, Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.
The Gunners watched as Wolves came from a two-goal deficit to level at Molineux Stadium.
Arteta described his side’s performance against the Spurs as “rewarding”; and on brace scorer, Eze, the manager said, he will definitely “get the best out of him now”.
On Bukayo Saka returning to his best, the Spaniard expressed “love” for how the England international dominated the clash against Tottenham, saying, the winger made himself active in “every action”.
According to arsenal.com, at his post-Spurs presser, Arteta said:
On his response following the win:
“I think the whole team, I cannot be prouder and happier for what I’ve seen out there, but especially the way we lived the last 72 hours, because I think this game in particular needed some context.
“And after what happened against Wolves and the manner in which we lost two points in the last kick of the game, it was tough. But that’s the beauty of this game.
“And then you have to lift yourself up because you’re feeling angry, upset, ashamed at some point.”
On his players’ performance:
“The way I could feel them after the game and the way I was feeling, it’s much bigger – this is not a job. When you are disappointed about what you’ve done in your job, you don’t feel that way, it’s much bigger than that.
“It can be very rewarding, and today, football shows you that keep going – whatever you do, you win. Keep going.”
On Eberechi Eze’s goalscoring prowess in the second half of the season:
“We looked at every stat, but that one, to be very honest, no. I mean, he’s scored five goals in the last two games against them, which is extremely difficult to do, but I could see that he wanted to prove something. He was upset, even with me, because I didn’t play him in the other day from the beginning and some of the decisions that I made.
“And I start to understand how we’re going to get the best out of him now.”
On Bukayo Saka returning to his best:
“I loved his attitude, his presence, how dominant he was in the game from the beginning. The first reaction immediately, he wants to grab the game, and he really wants to say, I’m here. And that’s what I love, he didn’t score, but he was in every action.
“I think he was really, really good.”
What next for Arsenal?
Arssnal, who are still Premier League 2025/26 toppers, will slug it out with another London-based side, Chelsea Football Club, in the Premier League match on Sunday 1 March, 2026 at Emirates Stadium, North London.
Currently, Chelsea are on the 4th spot of the standings with forty-five (45) points, same points as Manchester United, who take on Everton in the Premier League on Monday 23 February, 2026 at the newly constructed 52,000-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.
If Manchester United emerges victorious at Everton, then, Chelsea will fall to fifth as the Blues, United and Liverpool fight for top-four finish.
