Senegal 3-1 Sudan: Pape Gueye nets brace as Lions of Teranga clinch comeback win in Tangier

Senegal fought from the back to emerge victorious by three (3) goals to one (1) in the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2025 second round match against Sudan on Saturday 3 January, 2026 at Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier.

The outcome takes Senegal to the quarter finals of the tournament and Sudan kicked out.

Shockingly, the Lions of Teranga fell behind very early, in the 6th minute, when Amar Abdallah netted for Sudan.

But, Senegal levelled and went in front through Villarreal defensive midfielder, Pape Gueye’s brace in the 29th minute and 3rd minute of first half additional time.

And in the 77th minute, Villarreal defensive midfielder, Ibrahim Mbaye, ensured Senegal progressed to the last eight of the tournament with the third goal.

Senegal will face the winner between Mali and Tunisia in the quarter finals.

Mali and Tunisia will play in Casablanca on Saturday 3 January, 2026 at 20:00 (WAT).

Sudan was curled into a shock lead by Abdallah with an amazing left-footed effort into the top-left corner, but Senegal were fast to take control as they searched for a response.

The offside flag denied the Lions of Teranga a penalty for a foul on Sarr by Abuzaid, but Pape Gueye sealed the turnaround in first-half additional time, hitting the back of the net with a left-footed finish after excellent work from Jackson.
