Nigeria controlled the clash from start to finish and cruised past Mozambique to reach the quarter finals of the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The goal scoring started in the 20th minute when Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, converted Akor Adams’ assist and fired Nigeria in front from inside the box.
The buildup to the goal started from the midfield after Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, located Adams on the left wing who then passed to Lookman to score.
The Super Eagles continued to press forward, and in the 25th minute, Galatasaray sharpshooter, Victor Osimhen, added the second with a close range strike after Lookman had provided.
The former SSC Napoli striker’s goal placed Nigeria solidly in control heading into the second half.
And, just two (2) minutes into the second half, Lookman provided for Osimhen once again, who wasted no time to make it three for the West African side.
Osimhem was a frequent threat to Mozambique as he integrated movement, power and finishing all through the match.
In the 75th minute, Lookman bagged his 3rd assist of the night as his pass was well fired by Adams straight into the top of the post, beating The Mambas’ goalkeeper.
It was the fourth and final goal of the encounter as the Super Eagles majestically secured their spot in the last eight (8) of AFCON 2025.
Mozambique hustled with determination however, the offensive firepower was seriously missing as they failed to trouble the Nigerian defense.
The historic knockout phase run of the Mozambicans finished in defeat, but, they deserve to be commended for reaching the AFCON Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
Nigeria’s victory on Monday night shows their title ambitions, as well as, sends a powerful message as they progress to face tougher opponents in the quarter finals.

The Super Eagles were on top from, and striker Victor Osimhen had an early goal ruled out for offside within the first two minutes.
Nigeria will face the winner between Algeria and Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in Saturday’s quarter-final tie in Marrakech at 17:00 (WAT).
Algeria and DR Congo will play for a quarter final ticket on Tuesday 6 January, 2026 at Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat.
