Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool: Reds suffer seventh top flight defeat after Cherries’ late winner

Liverpool bagged their seventh top flight loss of the campaign after falling 2-3 to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League 2025/26 match on Saturday 24 January, 2026 at Vitality Stadium.

It was Amine Adli who netted the winner very late for the home side to cart maximum points.

The result means Arne Slot’s Reds’ unbeaten run have now been squashed. Liverpool had been without a defeat across thirteen (13) matches in all competitions until they visited the Cherries – a run that had four (4) consecutive Premier League draws.

Evanilson opened the scoring for Bournemouth in the 26th minute after defender, Virgil Van Dijk’s error, and in the 33rd minute, Alex Jimenez doubled the lead for the hosts.

Bournemouth’s second came after Liverpool were unable to quickly decide on injured Joe Gomez; the visitors were down to ten (10) men when they conceded the second.

Liverpool then pulled one back in the 45th minute after Van Dijk converted Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner to make up for his errors earlier.

In the 80th minute, Mohamed Salah turned provider for Szoboszlai who levelled for the Reds in the 80th minute.

Andy Robertson, Scottish defender, who has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this month, was brought in to replace Milos Kerkez for a second half heavily dominated by the Reds.

Szoboszlai’s leveller came from a free-kick with ten (10) minutes to full time; the goal made it look like Liverpool’s unbeaten run will continue, until late in additional time when Adli struck the back of the net.

Manager Andoni Iraola’s Cherries showed bravery and boldness after winning just one (1) in their last thirteen (13) encounters, and netted their third and winner in the 5th minute of additional time through Adli to seal three (3) points for the hosts on home ground.

Currently, Liverpool are fourth following the defeat with thirty-six (36) points, fourteen (14) points behind toppers, Arsenal, while AFC Bournemouth are 13th with thirty (30) points.

Liverpool are now without a win in their last five (5) Premier League games – four (4) draws against Arsenal, Leeds United, Burnley and Fulham; and a loss now to Bournemouth.

In his post-defeat comments, Slot said: “I tried to scream towards them [his players] to put the ball out of play but actually we were quite comfortable – I think we kept the ball for quite a long time and then when we lost it, it was the opposite.

“But we concede and the only ones to blame are ourselves.”
