The Federal Inlans Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced, a fire incident happened at its office in Wuse Zone 5 in Abuja on Saturday 20 December, 2025.
Via a public notice, the FIRS said, with the intervention of the Fire Service of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other emergency responders, the fire was extinguished, with no life lost.
It made known, an investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause of the fire, however, “preliminary assessments pointing to a possible electric failure”.
The Public Notice signed by the FIRS Management reads: “The Federal Inlans Revenue Service (FIRS) wishes to inform the general public that a fire incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, 20th December 2025 at one of its offices located No 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
“The fire which broke out in the fourth floor of the building was promptly responded to by our security personnel on duty. With swift support of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders, the fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading further.
“We are grateful to report no lives were lost in the incident. However, a number of offices on the affected floor sustained damage.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced with preliminary assessments pointing to a possible electrical fault. In the meantime, all internal safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened to mitigate against future occurrences.”
This is happening as Nigerians gear up for the country’s new tax laws which will take effect January 1, 2026.
