Ekitike’s brace fires Liverpool to 2-0 win over Brighton

On his Liverpool comeback, Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah, glowed off the bench after being removed from selection in a beautiful 2-0 victory over Brighton in the Premier League 2025/26 match at Anfield on Saturday 13 December, 2025.

It was striker, Hugo Ekitike’s brace that helped hand the defending champions all three (3) points and climb up the table.

Anfield greeted Salah with cheers after he came on earlier than expected, replacing the injured Joe Gomez after 26 minutes.

For the second top flight encounter running, Ekitike found the back of the net twice, however, it was the Egypt international’s performance that this match will be remembered for, in his last appearance for Arne Slot’s Reds before Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

Gomez’ assist was well utilized by Ekitike very early, in the 46th second of play, to put Liverpool in front following a poor Yankuba Minteh clearance.

Brighton had goal chances on both sides of the showdown, however, Diego Gomez was unable to convert two chances to bring parity to the game.

In the 60th minute, Salah provided for Ekitike, who made it two for the hosts.

In the Premier League, Salah has recorded “277 goals involvements”, which comprises of “188 goals, 89 assists”.
