Despite rejections from the African Union (AU), Kingdom of Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, citizens have converged on the streets of Hargeisa and other cities across the Republic of Somaliland to celebrate after the State of Israel officially recognized Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign” State.
The AU fumed, it rejects any recognition of Somaliland as an independent State, and reaffirmed its “unwavering” commitment to Somalia’s “until and sovereignty”.
Also, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and others, joined by Nigeria have “unequivocally rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland”; and President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has made it clear while addressing a special Joint Session of the Federal Parliament that, Somaliland remains “an inseparable part” of Somalia.
After Israel’s bold recognition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Somaliland said in a statement, “the will” of the people of Somaliland has opened a “new chapter of cooperation”.
The Statement reads: “Mass celebrations are taking place in Hargeisa and across cities of the Republic of #Somaliland, as citizens proudly gather to commemorate l the historic decision by the Government of #Israel to formally recognize Somaliland.
“This landmark moment reflects the will of the Somaliland people and opens a new chapter of cooperation, partnership, and shared commitment to peace and stability.”
