It was a big struggle for Chelsea to handle physical and direct resistance on a difficult Wednesday night at Yorkshire as the Blues unbeaten run came to an end in the top flight encounter against Leeds United.
Enzo Maresca led Chelsea to Elland Road having gone seven (7) matches without suffering any loss across all competitions.
But, it was hard for the Blues to continue in that form as a very determined Leeds United opened the scoring through Jaka Bijol’s header after just six minutes.
In the 43rd minute, the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Champions were two (2) goals behind when Ao Tanaka put the ball past goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, with a low drive into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Some hope came to the Blues after Pedro Neto found the back of the net in the 50th minute, converting Jamie Gittens’ cross from close range.
The home side, who were staunch on carting all three (3) points on home turf, responded and restored their two-goal lead through Englishman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, in the 72nd minute.
From that point, it became hopeless for Chelsea, who made five (5) changes from the team that drew 1-1 with Arsenal three (3) days earlier.
On one of the other games, Arne Slot’s Liverpool fought really hard to clinch one point against Sunderland at Anfield.
