Aston Villa 2-1 Arsenal – Gunners 18-game unbeaten run ends at Villa Park

A goal from Emi Buendia with the last kick of the showdown had Arsenal sadly fall to Aston Villa in the Premier League 2025/26 match at Villa Park on Saturday 6 December, 2025.

The result means Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal’s 18-match unbeaten run has come to an end.

Matty Cash handed Unai Emery’s Villans the lead in the suffocating game in the 35th minute with a finely-taken finish.

But, in the 51st minute, the visitors responded through substitute Leandro Trossard who scored for the third consecutive top flight game having returned to action from injury.

Both Aston Villa and Arsenal recorded many good chances to win, but, goalkeepers, Emiliano Martinez and David Raya, were in very fine form; the goalies made series of crucial saves, however, in the final action of the match, Buendia managed to net the winner in the 4th minute of additional time to secure a fifth win back-to-back for Aston Villa.

With this loss on Arsenal, the Premier League title race has now been blown wide open.

It was a well deserved triumph for Emery’s side, who have now emerged winner in nine (9) of their last ten (10) Premier League games and have firmly entered the race for the title.

The home side placed Arsenal under pressure from the beginning and they could have gone in front in the opening twenty (20) minutes of the game, but, Raya’s beautiful save denied Ollie Watkins’ effort.

Once again, Watkins tested Raya, but, the Spanish shot stopper was equal to it; and Arsenal clinched back the upper hand and started to force the hosts back.
