With his first goal of the season, Martin Odegaard, helped Arsenal clinch a 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League match on Saturday 27 December, 2025 at Emirates Stadium.
The result means the Gunners reclaimed their position as toppers of the League after Manchester City had taken the spot following a 2-1 triumph over Nottingham Forest earlier.
The Norway international placed Mikel Arteta’s side in front in the 13th minute before Georgino Rutter found the back of his own net to double the home side’s advantage from a Declan Rice set piece.
However, the Seagulls fought back and pulled one back through Diego Gomez in the 64th minute; the visitors would have levelled but thanks to goalkeeper, David Raya, who saved all three (3) points for Arsenal by denying Yankuba Minteh’s effort.
The Seagulls goalie was kept very busy in the opening exchanges, stopping Bukayo Saka from a tight angle after the English winger had raced past Maxim De Cuyper.
Odegaard’s opener was his first goal since scoring Arsenal’s final goal of the 2024/25 campaign with another effort from range against Southampton, who are now playing in the Championship after finishing in the red zone in the top flight in the previous season.
After eighteen (18) games, Arsenal sit on the zenith of the table with forty-two (42), two (2) points ahead of Manchester City, while, Brighton are 12th with twenty-four (24) points.
