The Super Eagles of Nigeria have scaled through to the final of African play-offs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a dramatic 4-1 triumph over Gabon after extra time.

Akor Adams placed Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles in front in the 78th minute after converting a weak back pass, however, Gabon levelled in the 89th minute through Mario Lemina’s deflected shot to ensure the showdown reached extra time.

Then, Galatasaray sharpshooter, Victor Osimhen registered his name with a brace, scoring for the three-time Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) winners in the 102nd and 110th minutes.

The outcome means Nigeria have advanced into the final of the CAF 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier Play-off to face Congo, who defeated Cameroon on Thursday 13 November, 2025 by a lone goal in the other qualifier Play-off.

The Super Eagles and the Leopards will lock horns in the Play-off final on Sunday 16 November, 2025 in Morocco at 20:00 (WAT).

The winners of that match will then move on to a six-team intercontinental qualifier, which will be held in March and will determine the final two qualifiers for next year’s World Cup.

Victor Osimhen has now netted thirty-one (31) goals for the Super Eagles.
