Manchester City 4-1 Dortmund: Foden’s brace takes Cityzens into Champions League top eight

English attacking midfielder, Phil Foden, scored twice to help Manchester City comfortably defeat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 5 November, 2025.

Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens took the lead in the 22nd minute through Foden, with an assist from Tijjani Rejinders; then Jeremy Doku provided for Erling Braut Haaland, who made it two in the 29th minute.

Rejinders once again supplied Foden, who added the third and his second of the showdown, in the 57th minute.

The German Bundesliga side pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Waldemar Anton, but, the hosts sealed victory in the 1st minute of additional time through French attacking midfielder, Rayan Cherki.

Spanish manager, Guardiola, described Foden as being back to his best and ready to be inspirational in Manchester City’s quest for silverware.

In his post-Dortmund comments, the former Barcelona manager said: “Phil is back.

“How many times have we seen Phil score these type of goals? We miss this a lot last season but this season I think he is going to help us a lot.

“When Phil is happy with love and joy, you don’t have to say much. He’s a special player but we need his goals and hopefully today was the first step to do it.”

Guardiola to TNT Sports: “Huge respect for these players and we’re in a good position. If we can make another one or two victories, maybe we can get close to finishing in the first eight.”
