After suffering three (3) defeats in the hands of Spanish Kings, Barcelona, last season, including a humiliating 4-0 loss in front of their own fans and a cup final, Real Madrid needed a statement victory in El Clasico. Jude Bellingham, once again, was the man who made it happen.
The English midfielder contributed to the Los Blancos’ two goals at home against their fiercest League rivals.
French forward, Kylian Mbappe’s first goal in the 12th minute was cancelled by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) before Bellingham provided for the former Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) player to open the scoring for Xabi Alonso’s side in the 22nd minute.
But, Hansi Flick’s Catalans levelled in the 38th minute through Ferran Torres, converting Marcus Rashford’s assist.
And two (2) minutes to the end of the first 45 minutes, Eder Militao provided for Bellingham, who found the winner for Real Madrid.
Mbappe was supposed to add the third from the penalty spot but lost and the home side held on with 2-1 until the end.
It was a bold and crucial win for Real Madrid especially after suffering a shocking 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid earlier in the season.
In his post-Barcelona comments, Bellingham said: “It was a magnificent performance by the whole team.”
After the win, Manager Alonso said: “I saw the lads and the stadium enjoying themselves.”
Barcelona’s Pedri and A. Lining of Real Madrid were sent off in additional time.
